Why do I need Notary?
The signing of most legal documents requires that a Notary be present to confirm identity, willingness, and awareness (and refer legal questions to an attorney).
- All Signer’s identities are verified.
- Signers understand the documents they are signing.
- Signers are entering into a transaction of their own free will, and not being coerced.
What is a Notary Public?
Notaries derive their authority from their state governments. They are “appointed” or “commissioned” by a top official of their state, generally the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State or Treasurer. Each state has its own unique notary laws and notaries must follow the laws of their particular state. This means that notaries in one state may have authority to perform duties that notaries in another do not—it depends completely on each state’s notary laws. There is no corresponding or overriding federal law governing notaries.
SIGN IN THE NOTARY'S PRESENCE
The Notary Public is directly responsible for determining that the person signing is who they state they are,
before they sign a document.
So, wait for the Notary to first verify your ID before you sign your documents.

North Carolina Vehicle Documents & Notarization Support (In-Person Only)
Sign Here Notary Services provides in-person and mobile notarization for many North Carolina vehicle-related documents, including title transfers, DMV forms, and motor vehicle power of attorney paperwork.
Vehicle Title Transfers (NC)
If you are transferring ownership of a vehicle and the title is a North Carolina title, the assignment portion of the title must be completed and notarized. Please do not sign the title until we meet in person so the notarization can be completed correctly. NCDOT
Co-Owners on a Title
When a vehicle is owned by more than one individual (co-owners), NCDMV requires notarization of all signatures on required documents, along with a copy of the co-owner’s valid driver license/ID (or use of a Power of Attorney, if applicable). NCDOT+1
Common NCDMV Forms We Often See
Depending on your situation, you may be working with one or more of the following NCDMV forms (or related documents):
MVR-63 (Power of Attorney) – often used when someone needs authority to sign motor vehicle title/registration documents on another person’s behalf (includes a notary section). NCDOT
Duplicate/Replacement Title Requests – NCDMV indicates notarization is required for certain title documents and related applications. NCDOT
